Historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary

Now for something different! This won’t be the usual picturesque mountain scenes or ocean waves that you normally see on our site. This is totally opposite of that. A couple months ago some friends and us went on a road trip about two hours away and toured a very cool place -
Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary - Located in the small town of Petros, Tennessee.

D Block. The cells here held the maximum security prisoners.
These prisoners were only allowed one hour a day out of the cells.

There are awesome textures like this all over the prison grounds!
I could’ve spent all day just taking pictures like this. You’ll see a few of my favorites throughout this blog!

Main Prison.

The cafeteria area is surrounded by artwork done by the prisoners. Some is also on display in the museum.

One of Brushy’s famous prisoners is James Earl Ray. He was the convicted assassin of Martin Luther King Jr. Cell #28 was his cell while here.
